KATS Moves is a community-driven plan to enhance pedestrian, greenway, and transit facilities throughout the greater Kalamazoo Metro region.The Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study (KATS) initiated the Pedestrian, Greenways, and Transit Plan in the Fall of 2016 to improve linkages between the existing transit network and the non-motorized infrastructure in the region. KATS is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Kalamazoo Urbanized Area, and its purpose is to coordinate transportation planning and fund transportation projects for the region. KATS Moves is an effort to incorporate all local communities' located in the Kalamazoo Urbanized Area plans for future pedestrian, bicycle, and greenway investments and is intended to meet the following goals:
- Increase transit, bicycle and pedestrian mode share through planning for an integrated network of facilities
- Identify greenway corridors that can best protect natural resources while providing transportation connections
- Define and prioritize greenway projects while determining their financial feasibility
